As many of you may have noticed I’m nearly abandoned my old blog site Infomountain.Org over the past year. I fully intend to change that but first I must come to terms with the effect of microblogging, both Twitter and facebook on my content distribution in general. Long story short Tumblr has coalesced as my central point of distribution for anything beyond a simple blurb or status update.
I set out last year to unite various social media sites into a single live stream of personal data. I partially succeeded in aggregating various feeds into one via FriendFeed but quickly found much of the metadata and supporting presentation stripped as information was converted to a more universally accessible XML feed. This was not ideal given my tendency to embedded rich media and desire to format content appropriately.
Thus enter Tumblr which, over the past year, has allowed me to both post rich content and now near-seamlessly integrate that data with other sites like Twitter and facebook. It’s been a long road and truthfully Tumblr hasn’t always published content the way I wanted, but it’s done a fair job especially in lieu of sites like Pownce. All things being equal Tumblr is the best of best for rich content sharing via social media type channels.
That being said I plan to exploit the hell out of Tumblr and to use it as it was intended: something worth reading on the Internet.
