Build up to Le Mans: 15 days - Before there was Circuit de la Sarthe there was Avus, and no one dominated there like Auto Union (Audi) and Mercedes Benz. Armed with the iconic “Silver Arrow” Grand Prix race car teams exceeded speeds of 380 kilometers/hour. Both manufacturer’s names became synonymous with high speed performance which left a lasting effect on the public and company culture.
This year Audi hopes to celebrate its 75th anniversary with an overall win at Le Mans in the ground breaking R15 diesel prototype. Though victory is not guarenteed one thing is for certain: the cars that bear the four-rings will be clad in a silver color that reaches back seven decades to the birth of a champion and a company.
