The 24 Hours of Le Mans is on June 12, or about two and a half weeks from now. As in years past I'm managing a "Fantasy Racing Pick-Em Challenge". The goal is simple, choose a set of cars you think will finish the race and earn points. I'll publish the results on facebook and on my website when the event is over. You can submit your picks via facebook or email by the deadline below.
At any rate here are the rules for this year's challenge:
Must choose 3 teams from each class plus 1 backup.
- No more than 1 car "Chassis/Engine" or "Make/Model" per class (ex: "Peugeot 908 HDi FAP" / "Audi R15 TDI plus" / "Audi R10 TDI")
- No more than 1 factory team per class. These are:
- Team Peugeot / Peugeot Sport
- Audi Sport (Team Joest, North America)
- Aston Martin Racing
- Corvette Racing
- BMW Motorsport
- Jaguar RSR * (Removed 6/5/10)
- Spyker Squadron
- AF Corse (Ferrari)
- * No more than 2 Michelin shod (tires) cars per class
NOTE: You may substitute a back up entry if one of your three primary entries withdraws prior to the start of the race. Once the race begins no substitutions will be allowed.
Scoring for each class:
- Points for final position after 24 hours as determined by ACO official results:
- 1st - 10 pts
- 2nd - 7 pts
- 3rd - 5 pts
- 4th - 3 pts
- 5th - 2 pts
- 6th - 1 pt
- Penalties
- -2 pts :: Car "Not Classified" by ACO - Not completing 70% of the winner's distance or not taking checkered flag
- -5 pts :: Car retired "Did Not Finish" by ACO
Victory Conditions:
The team with the highest score based on car finishing position minus any penalties is the winner.
Tie Breaker:
All teams must choose the fastest qualifying time for LMP1, LMP2, GT1 and GT2. In the event of a tie the team whose qualifying time delta (difference) is the lowest, as calculated across all four classes in milliseconds, will be the winner.
A reference of teams is available here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_24_Hours_of_Le_Mans or on the official 24 Hours of Le Mans website. The official ACO entry list and event results will be considered for the purposes of team eligibility and event result scoring. For last years qualifying times see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_24_Hours_of_Le_Mans.
Deadline to choose teams is 9 am EDT - Thursday June 10
Deadline to use backup is 9 am EDT - Saturday June 12
Preliminary results will be calculated following the conclusion of the event, final scores will be determined when ACO publishes official results.
Update 6/4/2010 - Jaguar RSR removed from "factory" list.
